I’m getting a display Pro on Tuesday and I want to make a perfect calibration with DisplayCall that i used with Omen X35 and Spyder5 u remember? I couldn’t get the contrast value because the spyder didn’t measures the lowest black level correctly, so I will follow a German video that calibrates a monitor with display pro and displayCall, if I need help can I write here?

Hey,

yes, I do remember :) BUT, in my opinion for gaming, you don't really need a DisplayCal or some else calibration tools. You can easily adjust the gamma value + color temperature in the OSD while ICC profiles do not work in most games (color correction). But yes, you can measure with the DisplayCal the contrast while with the Spyder it is not really possible.

You can always write of course :)

Hey Lim here its better to write :D

I know that games will not load icc profile, but i like to have a correct white point and accurate colors because i use it although for other things, and i like a perfect looking desktop because my eyes are to "empfindlich" :D

will post here some measurements back here do u use DisplayCall?

Hey mate, sorry for the late response. I'm using the x rite x1 atm. basICColor display 5, but mostly only for contrast and color temperature measurements, while the calibration tool is sometimes very weird and since two weeks it does not measure the black point above 0.7 cd/m2 :(

Hey Lim

I have recvd the Display Pro but its very strange if i load the profile made by a friend of mine with same profiler and program colors looks better than if i load the profile created with mine here...i have made a video to show you the differences, when its brighter its the local profile when its darker its the profile of my friend, so i'm frustrated because its seems to me that with the profile created by my friend looks bettere than the one created here in local....WTF

The RGB color space looks pretty similar.

A reason for that could be:

That the Gamma on the ICC profile from your friend is darker and changes gamma settings on your unit to 2.4 except your profile to 2.2. In this case, colors pop MORE than on gamma 2.2 (but with a worse dynamic range in blacks). Did you have measured the max brightness with the profile from you and compared it with the profile from your friend?

Did you test on a full white screen how if the color temperature from your friend is maybe WARMER than yours? In this case, colors also are more intense. This happens when your unit, for example, has a native color temperature of 5800k and the of from your friend of 6300k for example, then with the profile from your friend, you would have around 6000 whereas you would have with your profile 6500k.

Warmer color temperature = mostly better colors (but tints in white)
Lower gamma = more pop colors
Brighter image (in a 1:1 comparison) = more "clear" look

And how can I calculate the contrast ratio ? ;)
You cant. You will ALWAYS have the best contrast on the NATIVE RGB (color temperature) settings. Because when decreasing RGB settings, the max brightness peak will drop while the blacks are the same.

So what you have to do now?

1. measure YOUR gamma value with an ENABLED profile from YOUR friend and with YOUR profile
2. measure YOUR max brightness value with an ENABLED profile from YOUR friend and with YOUR profile
3. measure YOUR color temperature with an ENABLED profile from YOUR friend and with YOUR profile

Compare all results

If you cant measure while using a profile, then you simply should trust your eyes or compare gamma on the lagom test

Du bist supaaaaaa!!!!!!

I was profiling with 2.5 gamma enabled in OSD and using in profiler software 2.2 so as soon as i applied the new profile I became this worse gamma effect ;)

Now..my friend can’t do any test because he sent back the display pro, now i’m making a profile that is taking about 2hours to finish with a lot of patches to have a very god one, now I have only one question how can I calculate the contrast ratio of my panel explain it as simple as you can I have still not understand it yet sorry

Results seem good.

How to MEASURE the contrast ratio with DisplayCal:

Start calibrating the monitor and as soon as you will enter the "pre calibration" menu where you have to change brightness and color temparture in the OSD before starting the REAL calibration you simply take a full black pattern and measure the cd/m2 of it (this pattern also only must be as big as the measured area, for example, a small square). Do the same with the white point (full white square) and divide the brightness/black point.

Calibrating the contrast is NOT possible :P

did you have changed RGB settings? You have to measure the max brightness in in a white square and the max brightness in a black square and divide both - Did you so? Just wondering that the color temperature differs (but maybe I am just wrong and it is usual that the color temperature changes on a black square) if so, then yes this is the contrast

Yeah, I see - So it will differ mostly between 850-1150 within each panel. The center also mostly has the best contrast area compared to the edges. My Alienware was pretty good, just retention issues on my damn unit while other Alienware owners did not have this strange thing. But as we all know, the Alienware also can differ (tft central also had a contrast around 850:1)
